Wow, didn’t 2017 fly by. Are you ready for 2018 yet? We’ve taken a look at advice we’ve shared with you in 2017 and turned them into a user-friendly IT checklist for you to get your business off to a flying start in 2018.
Get your Computer Data Backed Up
In our article The best backups for your computer we explored the different options for preserving your computer’s content. Here are the choices:
- Manual backups – easiest to control and will record a specific snapshot of your computer at a certain time
- Backup to other drives – The most common way the average computer user will backup their information (CDs, DVDs, flash drives, external drives)
- Cloud storage – Online data storage are handy to create multiple copies of information
Give your Computer a Good Spring Clean
Monday 13th February saw National Clean Out Your Computer Day. Where many IT companies focused on increasing computer speed by a clean out of data, we looked at getting rid of cobwebs and dust. Take a look at our practical Youtube video.
Don’t Fall Victim to Ransomware
One of the biggest stories that affected the technology industry in 2017 was ransomware. What had been just an occasional IT problem, it hit the big-time in May. Be wary of attachments, even if they appear to have come from a trusted source.
Our advice is to backup your devices, get yourself a good anti-virus software such as ESET. Whatever you do, don’t pay the ransom as there is no guarantee they will release your data.
Change your Password
In May we celebrated World Password Day. At North London IT Support, we took it as an opportunity to educate our customers with:
- How to choose a password
- How often to change your password
- Password Storage
- Other password advice
- Don’t share passwords
- Don’t re-use passwords
Holiday IT Tips
In July and August when the whole of North London appeared to be on holiday we were working hard to make sure our clients’ IT was in safe hands and their computers running in tip top order. We shared our advice on Holiday IT Etiquette and How North London IT Support Can Help You Relax On Holiday
Importance of a Proper Email Address
In 2018 ditch your Gmail or Hotmail address and get yourself set up with a proper business email address. Create the right impression to your customers or potential clients and show them you mean business.
We hope you will adopt one or more of these resolutions in 2018. If you need any more ideas on how to make your business IT run smoothly then we’d love to hear from you 0800 756 1400.
