It’s World Backup Day on Saturday 31st March 2018. A day when we’re told not to be an April Fool and to be prepared and backup your files on March 31st.
Our business thrives on backups. We backup our own data and that of other small businesses in the local area. When we heard about this day, we were curious as to what to expect.
World Backup Day website
The website simply educates viewers as to:
- what a backup is
- why they should backup
- how to back up
and then invites you to take a pledge.
What is a backup?
A backup is a way of ensuring that your files are kept safe in case something happens to your PC or laptop. A second copy of your photos, videos, documents and files are stored somewhere safe either in the cloud or on external hardware.
Do I really need to backup?
In our article Back Up Your Data or Not? You Decide. We give a very good reason why you need to backup your files: Backups are critical for business continuity. It’s as simple as that!
How to backup?
Backing up couldn’t be simpler. You can pick from three ways, as detailed in our article The Best Backups for your Computer:
- Manual backups – the most basic type backing up process by hand
- Backing up to other drives – automating backups to other drives, including CDs or DVDs, or to thumb drives (sometimes known as flash drives or memory sticks) or external storage drives
- Backing up to online sources – saving information from backups is through the use of an online data storage service.
